On 12 March, a fire broke out on the sixth floor external balcony of Tweed Walk Tower Hamlets – a twelve storey apartment block.
The fire destroyed the balcony and the heat of the fire caused the glass and balcony door to smash, one of our sprinkler heads activated within the flat and stopped the fire spreading any further.
Two people left the property before the Brigade arrived and there were no reports of any injuries.
The only damage within the flat was smoke damage to ceiling and walls and some water damage to walls. The external fire was extinguished by the fire brigade.
The Brigade’s fire investigators believe the fire was accidental and was caused by the unsafe disposal of a cigarette. “Fortunately, the sprinklers fitted in the property stopped the fire from spreading inside and causing further damage.”
Our engineer attended site on the same day to get the sprinkler system back up and running following the activation.
