Unite Student Accommodation

On the 8th October a fire started in a microwave in an apartment on the 9th floor of Horizon Heights Student Accommodation. The sprinkler system activated and successfully extinguised the fire.

One of our engineers attended site the following day to replace the head and reinstate the system back to full operational use.

Southwark Sheltered Accommodation

On the 25th October sprinklers saved a flat in a sheltered accommodation block in Barset Road, Southwark, from being severely damaged by a fire.

The fire started in a ground floor flat and the sprinkler system activated and extinguished the blaze before firefighters arrived.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Sprinklers are the only fire safety system that detects a fire, suppresses a fire and raises the alarm. “They save lives and protect property and they are especially important where there are vulnerable residents who would find it difficult to escape, like those with mobility problems.”

South Acton Apartment Block

On 5th December at an apartment block in South Acton, a pan of oil caught fire. The occupant threw water on the fire in an attempt to put it out and as a result the oil flashed over, which in normal circumstances would have resulted in a serious fire, however the fire sprinkler activated and extinguished the fire.

The occupant had her baby in the flat as well so the situation could have been a lot worse without the intervention of the fire sprinkler system.

We installed the system on behalf of LJJ Contractors who have passed on their thanks to all involved.

Croydon 11 Storey Block

There was a fire in a flat situated on the 8th floor of an 11 storey building at 1pm on the 17th December. The sprinkler system contained and suppressed the fire before the arrival of the Fire Service. The fire started in the kitchen but the cause of the fire is currently pending investigation.

Our engineer attended site later that day to replace a single sprinkler head and reinstate the system.
